The Gran Fondo course will be 82.5 miles with a total elevation gain of 8,790 feet (Course on Veloroutes.org).
The Medio Fondo course will be 50.7 miles and follow the same course as the Gran Fondo but turn around before reaching I70,
it has a total elevation gain of 4,306 feet (Course on Veloroutes.org).
The courses begin in Bicknell at the Power Plant Gym and head west through Lyman and out to Fremont taking the farm road cut off to avoid Loa.
From there riders head up Utah SR72 which climbs from Fremont to a maximum altitude of 8,960 feet.
Initially SR72 curves upward through the sage brush but soon riders are presented with sweeping views of lakes and peaks to the west. At the summit
there are massive views to the east across the remote northern area of Capitol Reef National Park to the San Rafael Swell and Henry Mountains,
sometimes the La Sal mountains are even visible on the horizon almost 150 miles away.At the summit the Medio Fondo turns back while the Gran Fondo continues on SR72, first sweeping back down to a secluded dry lake valley and then climbing over the last range of hills to Fremont Junction at I70. There the course reverses and heads back over "The Hogans", as they are known locally.
Both courses continue to the end of SR72 in Loa and pass through town before taking the back "Airport/Big Rocks Road" to Bicknell and the finish line.
The ride is fully supported with aid/feed stations and neutral support vehicles.
